SBexpress - Precast Beams

The Precast Beams (E) module is used for modelling, laying out and documenting precast beams and filler blocks. It builds on the Construction (K) base module, using its style system and format strings.

What problem does the module solve?

In traditional precast slab design, every beam and filler block must be drawn individually, dimensions calculated by hand, and markings entered separately. Modifications affect every element, and tables must be recalculated.

  • Manual calculation of beam lengths and bearing values introduces error risk
  • When layout changes, every affected drawing element must be moved individually
  • Tables and drawings easily get out of sync

  • Intelligent beam creation between contours or between two points — the program automatically selects the standard length
  • Layout using the Copy command with distribution rules and visual panel

Object families

The E module handles two main object types: precast beams and filler blocks. Both build on the K module style system and integrate with the unified VBeXpress annotation, positioning and table generation system.

Beam object

An intelligent beam with multiple display modes: axis line, top view, cross-out. The beam type (e.g. E7, PTG, POROTHERM) and length determine the label. Includes bearing values, weight and production parameters.

Functions: • Creation between contours or between two points • Layout by copying with distribution rules • Intelligent stretch (to contour, grip, dimension) • Variable type, length, display

Filler block object

Void-forming elements that can be distributed between beams. Multiple types exist (EB 30/19, EB 60/19, POROTHERM 45 etc.). The program automatically selects the appropriate type from the filler block range assigned to the beam type.

Functions: • Automatic layout between beams • Multiple filler block types in one field • Manual placement alongside a single beam • Removable elements (at openings, chimneys)

Workflows

Creating beams

Two methods: between contours (bounding walls) where the program automatically selects the standard length with bearing values, or between two freely specified points where it finds a suitable beam for the indicated distance.

Functions: Beam type selection from panel, automatic length selection, bearing value consideration, axis line display with type marking

Layout with the Copy command

After creating the first beam, the Copy command opens an intelligent layout panel. You can specify a distribution rule (e.g. 30-60-60-30), use the predefined list, or lay out beams up to a selected contour.

Functions: Distribution rule input, list of standard spacings, 1× button, Up to Point button, undo

Filler block layout

Filler blocks can be distributed between beams into one or multiple beam spans. The program automatically selects the correct size from the range assigned to the beam type. A selection panel appears when multiple filler blocks share the same axis distance.

Functions: Into one row (next to end beam), between multiple beams, handling different types

Stretch and modify

Intelligent beam stretching works three ways: to contour (indicated line), via grip drag, or by dimension input (panel shown after double-click). The program evaluates the length change and updates the beam label if a matching standard length exists.

Functions: Stretch to contour, grip stretch, dimension input, evaluation (NO SUCH LENGTH indication)

Position numbering and table

Precast element position numbering and table generation integrate with the VBeXpress unified system. The Gather Elements command executes position numbering and creates or updates the precast elements table.

Gathering rules

  • • Beams with different bottom planes receive different position numbers
  • • Beams of different lengths are not grouped under one label
  • • Fixed POS overrides automatic positioning
  • • Re-gather after property changes

Precast elements table

  • • Four main modifier groups and 11 columns
  • • Columns can be toggled on/off, width adjustable
  • • Table format defined by the table descriptor file (en_precast.tbx)
  • • Automatically updates on gather

beam.cfg – beam and filler block database

All beam and filler block type definitions are in the beam.cfg file. The file is freely extendable and modifiable. To preserve changes, save to the Common directory (MMSS\Common).
